Because of the need to be totally self-sufficient for years at a time,
a hydroponics (a system to cultivate plants without sustainable soil) section has been set up
in Sector B. This allows the residents of Thunder Mountain to grow its own vegetables and
fruits since there are no longer trucks bringing them in. This is an important part of their
food supply because of the need to avoid such problems as scurvy, caused by the lack of fresh
fruit. |
