This is Monica's longish list of book that she has enjoyed over the years and wanted to share them with all of you. Also, don't forget to visit her Banana Yoshimoto pages that are dedicated to one of her favorite authors. Love is made of more than mere flesh and blood....

For sixteen-year-old Jane, life is a mystery she despairs of ever mastering. She and her friends are the idle, pampered children of the privileged class, living in luxury on an Earth remade by natural disaster. Until Jane's life is changed forever by a chance encounter with a robot minstrel with auburn hair and silver skin, whose songs ignite in her a desperate and inexplicable passion.

Jane is certain that Silver is more than just a machine built to please. And she will give up everything to prove it. So she escapes into the city's violent, decaying slums to embrace a love bordering on madness. Or is it something more? Has Jane glimpsed in Silver something no one else has dared to see—not even the robot or his creators? A love so perfect it must be destroyed, for no human could ever compete?

MONICA'S REVIEW:
I had gotten this book from my friend Jeff (who almost always picks out books I like). This is a great book that combines romance with science fiction in a wonderful way. It is set in earth's future where robots are commonplace ... some even designed for sexual pleasures. However, love was never supposed to be a factor (in fact, it was a taboo) so when our heroine Jane falls in love with one of these new model robots, their lives are forever changed.

OTHER EDITIONS:
This book is available in another paperback (Sep 1985) as well.

Delta of Venus
Author: Anaïs Nin -- Published: Jan 1990 -- Format: Paperback
Amazon Amazon.com Price: -- This item is currently not available.
Amazon UK Amazon UK Price: -- Limited availability

Fifty years ago, Anais Nin created the female language for sexuality. She did it for a wealthy male patron for $1.00 a page. Delta of Venus, filled with seductive, erotic and full-bodied writing, reveals Anaïs Nin as a woman—and a writer—ahead of her time.

MONICA'S REVIEW:
If you have never read any Nin or erotica before, this book is a good place to start. This book has just the right touch of femininity, sex and pleasure as only a woman can describe it. Even though Nin's work may be subtle compared to today's standards, it was considered pretty bold for the time in which it was written. It will open your mind to different experiences and Nin's words will linger long after you have put her novel down. Many thanks goes to Jeff (my best friend) who introduced her work to me.

OTHER EDITIONS:
This book is available in another paperback (Sep 1986) and a hardcover edition as well.

#1: Interview With the Vampire
Author: Anne Rice -- Published: Nov 1994 -- Format: Paperback
Amazon Amazon.com Price: $7.99 -- Usually ships in 24 hours
Amazon UK Amazon UK Price: £5.49 -- List Price: £6.99 -- Save: £1.50 (21%) -- Usually dispatched within 24 hours

Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly erotic, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force--a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write....

MONICA'S REVIEW:
I first read this upon the suggestion of a very good friend from high school. He turned me on to many good books and this was one (if not the first). I consider this book to be the best novel of the Vampire Chronicles and if you think you know all about vampires by reading Brahm Stoker's Dracula, then you are in for a surprise! Rice created a lusty, passionate and powerfully compelling type of vampire. She really draws you into the story and you can see the possibility of vampires existing today. This is a compelling tale that explores one vampire's life (so far). Louis is definitely my favorite vampire!

OTHER EDITIONS:
This book is also available in another paperback (reissue, Mar 1997), a hardcover (Apr 1976) and also a neat Audio CD edition as well.

I highly recommend the whole series by getting the boxed set of four (mass market paperbacks, Oct 1993) which includes Interview with the Vampire (book #1), The Vampire Lestat (book #2), The Queen of the Damned (book #3) and The Tale of the Body Thief (book #4). There has been a movie that was made and it is now available on VHS (NTSC, 1994) or DVD (NTSC, 1994).

From the bestselling author of Tailchaser's Song comes the first volume in an epic fantasy trilogy with all the magic, wonder, and magnificence of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. A young magician's apprentice's dreams of adventure come true when his world is torn apart by war and dark sorcery.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
The hardcover edition is listed as "limited availability" (last verified on 2.9.2002) and I cannot find a paperback edition on Amazon.com®. If you do happen to find this book, it is definitely worth the read.

MONICA'S REVIEW:
Williams tends to use a lot of words to get through his stories which some people have a hard time wadding through. I am quite used to skiming over sections that I find uninteresting and still find a book enjoyable ... this is definitely one of them. I actually like books that you can read over and over again and still get something new out of it. I found this novel to be similar to Fiest's Rift War Saga (scullery orphan who attempts to save his world with some magic thrown in) but it is so richly described, detailed and different that it is certainly in a class all by itself. Sure, there are some slow parts but overall, Williams does a fine job of creating a new world for you to get involved and swept up in.

RELATED PRODUCTS:
If you manage to plow your way through this tremendous novel, I would highly recommend that you finish off the rest of the series ... just be prepared to take some time reading it all! :) There is Stone of Farewell (mass market paperback, Jul 1994) and To Green Angel Tower (hardcover, Mar 1993) books available. If you want the paperback version of Green Angel, they split it into two books since it is so huge. You can get part one (mass market paperback, Jul 1994) and part two (mass market paperback, Jul 1994).
